Dates and Deadlines

Listed below are some of the important CMS deadlines for 2020-21. Please check bulletin boards regularly for detailed information on some of these deadlines and those that are not listed here.

September

4 SEPTEMBER

  • Coursework must be completed and grades submitted for Summer session courses and extended courses

8 SEPTEMBER

  • French examination, 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m., Online / LI 310
  • Most formal graduate courses and seminars begin.

9 SEPTEMBER

  • Level One Latin examination, 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., Online / LI 310
  • Grades for all Summer session courses available for viewing by students on ACORN

10 SEPTEMBER

  • German examination, 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m., Online / LI 310

11 SEPTEMBER

  • Level Two Latin examination, 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., Online / LI 310
  • Registration deadline for students registering or starting their program in the Fall (September to December) session; after this date, a late registration fee will be assessed. Minimum required payment due.

15 SEPTEMBER

  • Final date to submit final doctoral theses to SGS to avoid fee charges for 2020-21.
  • Please note that PhD theses must be submitted to CMS at least 12 weeks in advance of the oral examination.

21 SEPTEMBER

  • Final date to add Fall term and “Y” courses

30 SEPTEMBER

  • Payment deadline to avoid service charges on unpaid Fall (September to December) session tuition and non-tuition fees for students registered in the Fall session only, except for those who have successfully registered without payment because they are receiving a full funding package via a research stipend, a major award or scholarship, teaching assistantships, tuition waiver, and/or sponsorships. Monthly service charges will begin accruing on October 15.

October

Early October – Date to be Confirmed 

  • SSHRC applications due at CMS

2 OCTOBER

  • Final date to submit final doctoral theses for Fall Convocation
  • Final date for submitting final, corrected copy of PhD thesis to SGS for Fall Convocation

12 OCTOBER

  • Canadian Thanksgiving (University Closed)

15 OCTOBER

  • CMS Travel Bursary deadline

26 OCTOBER

  • Last date to drop Fall term courses without academic penalty

November

29 NOVEMBER

  • CMS Travel Bursary deadline

December

18 DECEMBER

  • Deadline for applications to the PhD program

23 DECEMBER – 3 JANUARY 

  • University of Toronto closed for Christmas holidays

January

4 JANUARY

  • First day of classes (Spring term)

8 JANUARY

  • Grades are due to CMS from Professors for ‘F’ and ‘A’ courses

13 JANUARY

  • Fall session grades available for viewing on ACORN

18 JANUARY

  • Final date to add Spring courses

21 JANUARY

  • French examination, 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., LI 310

22 JANUARY

  • German examination, 2:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., LI 310
  • Final date for submitting final, corrected copy of PhD thesis to SGS for March Convocation in absentia. 
  • Please note that PhD theses must be submitted to CMS at least 12 weeks in advance of the oral examination.

29 JANUARY

  • CMS Travel Bursary deadline

31 JANUARY

  • OGS applications due online

February

15 FEBRUARY

  • Family Day (University Closed)

22 FEBRUARY

  • Final date to drop Spring term and ‘Y’ courses without academic penalty

March

28 MARCH

  • CMS Travel Bursary deadline

April

2 APRIL

  • Good Friday (University closed)

12 APRIL

  • Level One Latin examination, 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., Online / PIMS Library

13 APRIL

  • French examination, 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m., LI 310

14 APRIL

  • Level Two Latin, 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., Online / LI 310

15 APRIL

  • German examination, 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m., LI 310

16 APRIL

  • Final date to have grades submitted for Spring (June) Convocation
  • Final date for submitting final, corrected copy of PhD thesis to SGS for those wishing to receive their degrees at the June Convocation.
  • Please note that PhD theses must be submitted to CMS at least 12 weeks in advance of the oral examination.

May

14 MAY

  • Grades are due to CMS from Professors for ‘S’ and ‘Y’ courses

19 MAY

  • Winter session Grades available for viewing on ACORN
