Congratulations to Professor Jacqueline Murray, an Alumna and Adjunct Professor of Medieval Studies at CMS, who has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in the Academy of Arts and Humanities. Fellows are elected by their peers for outstanding scholarly achievements in the Arts, Humanities, Sciences, and Social Sciences. Murray, who is also University Professor Emerita in History at the University of Guelph and a Fellow at St. Michael’s College, researches marriage and family, gender and sexuality, and medieval men and the construction of masculinity and male sexuality.

Jacqueline Murray’s intellectual creativity and impeccable scholarship have transformed the landscape of premodern European history. Her groundbreaking research in premodern sex, sexualities, genders and bodies has introduced innovative approaches to the study of medieval women and men and established the new research field of premodern men and masculinities. As a public humanist, she bridges her historical scholarship to explicate the premodern foundations of contemporary social issues and institutions.
