Description

Toronto Salutes Dante is currently underway!

Starting on March 25 and continuing into June, Toronto Salutes Dante will celebrate the 700th anniversary of the death of Dante Alleghieri with audiovisual readings from the Divine Comedy in over 30 languages and dialects.

The first video was released on March 25 and features an English-language reading by Adrienne Clarkson, former Governor General of Canada, as well as 30 lines from the Inferno newly translated into Anishinaabemowin.

Future videos will feature Dante scholars, students, and enthusiasts across Canada. The theme music for the videos is "Dante's Prayer" by Canadian musician Loreena McKennitt, who has authorized its use from her 1997 album Book of Secrets.

The project is being spearheaded by CMS professors Elisa Brilli and Nicholas Terpstra, with Italian Studies visiting lecturer George Ferzoco.

Stay tuned for more videos to be released!
