It is with sadness that we must announce the passing of Msgr. John F. Wippel at the age of 90. Msgr. Wippel was a priest in the Diocese of Steubenville, OH and taught philosophy for 60 years at The Catholic University of America. He was one of the foremost scholars of Thomistic metaphysics in his generation and will be missed by those who knew him, and by those who benefitted from his careful scholarship. Please join the PIMS community in observing a suitable moment of silence, and, for those appropriate, saying a prayer for the repose of his soul.
Of note, Msgr. Wippel was awarded Doctorate of Letters in Mediaeval Studies honoris causa, conferred by the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies, Toronto, October 1, 2005, among many other distinctions, and was prolific in publications of books and articles.
