Congratulations to CMS professor Shami Ghosh, who was featured yesterday on the University of Toronto Arts and Science website. Among the topics Shami discusses are his career path in medieval studies, his work on the development of capitalism through the middle ages, and the new covid-related challenges to research.
Shami also discusses the need for humanities even during periods of upheaval.
“Humanities research is where we try and understand what it means, has meant, and might mean in the future, to be human,” he says. “Humanities research can help us retain the best of what it means to be human as we enter into economic, technological and environmental conditions that are unprecedented.”
